Title: Vegas Results!!

TheGoldFarmer - December 6, 2009 08:17 AM (GMT)
Vegas called and we answered!

Death Knights, Death Knights everywhere! People just couldn't quit whining about how they cracked Army of the Dead and had to pass it away. I opened a solid pool of Warlock but then there was the this little card named "Devouring Plague" it was a tough call but I ended up in Priest.

First four rounds I kinda cruised through, took a couple of game losses but I was confident in the deck so at the end of round four I was sitting at Table 1 with great tiebreakers.

In round five I got thoroughly spanked by an absolutely sick Death Knight deck. Edge of Oblivion and double Suffocating Grip blow me out in game 1. In game two, I sent his weapon to the bottom of the deck, and now have a clear board, but lo and behold the one card he topped was a second weapon which promptly smacked me for 8. At this point I was unable to recover and that was game, set, match.

In round six I got paired down into the 3-2 bracket, this was a winnable matchup, but in all three games my opponent managed to have an immediate answer for Devouring Plague. In the third game he managed to curve me while I drew into six of my eight quests in the first six turns.

I am out of the top eight at this point, but I think I have a shot at top sixteen. I easily win my next match going into the final round at 5-2 with what I think are good tiebreakers in 21st. I meet up with my opponent Kyle who is currently in 11th with great tiebreakers and a win puts him in top eight. I have a tough choice, do I play dreambreaker and shoot for top sixteen, or do I scoop and put my opponent into top eight.

I decide that I need to prove myself better than a top thirty finisher at a big event, and go for the win. I managed to somehow pull out an amazing win in game one, he is the aggro for about 90% of the game, but Tuuskar and a couple of reshuffle quests eventually allow me to push to an insane +22 cards in the game. Eventually I manage to swing the board and get enough in to end it. Game two is more of the same, he is aggressive and but I just continually make trades and try to keep up the card advantage with Tuuskar Kite. Devouring Plague hits when he is at 7 resources with a King Varian Wrynn in his hand. He completes quests to keep the King in his hand while I pile up board position hoping to get the king gone. He somehow manages to make it two turns and drops the epic monster wiping my board, but as a final play before they go I get one more card from the Kite. On my turn with only eight cards left in the deck I go fishing and hit my removal to force the scoop.

When all was said and done I finished up 6-2, but after polling the field it doesn't look like I got enough wins in the low bracket 6-2 players to push five people out of the way.

Sure enough I finished in 17th on the second tie-break, sooooo frustrating to bubble out of a good prize. 12 Packs for the finish, 16th would have gotten me 20 packs and 100$ to Best Buy. All and all I am very happy with my performance, it was a 6-2 deck that I piloted about as well as I think I could have.

Hasta!

Congrats on the finish, Randy! Good job!

Also: DMF seems like a really tough environment to win decent prizes at. At least, that's how I felt after going 5-3 at the DMF in Austin and getting like 2 or 3 packs. (And Fred was 6-2 and got I think 4 packs?)

So did anyone hear anything about that Jan Palys thing? I guess he got a DQ for trying to bribe his opponent...?

ConradHex - December 8, 2009 08:18 PM (GMT)
Also: Randy, this link has you finishing 16th!

Maybe because Palys got the DQ?

I bet if you raise a stink, you will. :) You totally deserve it, so you should. (And I bet if you don't say anything, they'll "forget".)
